How to Grow a Coaching Business

I know you’re here because you’re trying to figure out how to grow your coaching business in a way that feels good, brings in clients regularly, and doesn’t overwhelm you. And I’m here to tell you that it’s 100% possible! Today, I’m sharing eight simple, stress-free tips to help you grow into the well-paid, in-demand coach you’re meant to be. Plus some extra business tips for you.

Whether you’re just starting or ready to level up, these tips will help you build a coaching business that runs smoothly and lets you actually enjoy what you do.

Let’s dive in!

1. Don’t Just Be “Helpful”—Be Impactful

This one’s big: Being helpful is great, but it won’t always get you the results you’re hoping for. As women, especially moms, we love helping people! But here’s the truth: sometimes, the people who need you the most aren’t ready to take action or invest in themselves. And as much as we want to “save” them, they have to be ready for change.

So, instead of focusing on being helpful to everyone, aim to be impactful with the right people—those who are actually ready to make moves. When you work with clients who are ready to invest in themselves, you’ll see bigger transformations and feel way more fulfilled in your work.

2. Focus on Specific, Tangible Results

We all want to make our clients feel good, but the key to building a solid coaching business is delivering measurable results. Instead of offering vague promises like “You’ll feel happier” or “Your marriage will improve,” try to focus on clear, specific outcomes. For example, you might help clients have more meaningful conversations with their spouse, or help someone feel confident enough to wear their favorite jeans again.

When people know exactly what they’ll get from working with you, it builds trust and makes it easier for them to say yes!

3. Know Exactly Who You Serve Best

I know, I know—you’ve probably heard this a million times, but it’s so important: you can’t be everything to everyone. If you really want to grow your coaching business, you need to get clear on who you actually serve best.

Don’t worry about “losing” potential clients by “niching down”. When you’re clear about who you’re helping, the right people will naturally gravitate toward you, even if they don’t fit your exact niche. You’ll also stand out more in a crowded market because your message will resonate with those perfect clients who need you most.

4. Create a Repeatable Process

If you want to grow your coaching business (without losing your mind), you need to have a solid system in place. That means creating a repeatable process for working with clients so you’re not reinventing the wheel with every new person who comes your way.

Having a set framework makes things easier for both you and your clients. You’ll feel more confident in your coaching, and your clients will feel reassured knowing there’s a clear path to follow.

5. Focus on Building Real Relationships

Here’s the thing: people hire coaches they like. It’s not just about the results you can give them, it’s about the connection you build. If you want to grow your coaching business, focus on building real, genuine relationships with your clients.

This doesn’t mean you have to be BFFs with everyone, but taking the time to connect, follow up, and show that you genuinely care can make all the difference. Happy clients turn into long-term clients and amazing referrals!

6. Be Consistent and Authentic

Consistency is everything when it comes to growing your business. If you want people to trust you and remember you, you have to show up regularly. I know it can feel like a lot to be “everywhere all the time,” but don’t worry—you don’t have to be.

Pick one or two platforms where your ideal clients hang out, and show up consistently there. And most importantly, show up as yourself. When you’re authentic, people are drawn to you naturally. Share the real you—imperfections and all—and you’ll attract clients who appreciate you for who you are.

7. Give Value First, Then Sell

Here’s a little secret: if you want people to hire you, you need to show them the value you provide before asking them to pay for your services. This doesn’t mean giving everything away for free, but sharing valuable tips, insights, or mini-trainings can build trust and make people want to work with you.

When you provide value upfront, people will see the results you’re capable of delivering, and they’ll be much more willing to invest in your paid services when the time comes.

8. Keep Investing in Yourself

Lastly, don’t forget to invest in your own growth. I know you’re pouring a lot of energy into your clients, but you need to take time to refill your own cup too. Whether it’s working with a coach, joining a mastermind, or just setting aside time for your personal development, remember to prioritize you.

The more you grow, the more value you’ll be able to offer your clients—and that’s what will really help your business thrive in the long run.

Systematizing Isn’t Just About Sales—It’s About Creating Mental Space

Let’s get something straight—systematizing isn’t just about selling more or saving time. Sure, that’s part of it, but it’s also about creating mental space for you as a coach to dive deeper into helping your clients. Think about how much energy goes into answering the same questions over and over again or trying to figure out how to help each client achieve their goals from scratch. Exhausting, right?

When you streamline your processes, you’ll free up your energy to focus on the real magic—helping your clients transform. With systems in place, you won’t just feel more organized; you’ll have more mental space to go deeper, to coach with more intention, and to help your clients reach their next level. It’s a win-win!

1. Systematize to Serve, Not Just to Sell

Here’s a mindset shift for you: don’t think of refining your processes as something you “should do” to sell more. Instead, think of it as a way to serve your clients better. When you have a repeatable system in place, you’re not just helping more people—you’re helping them more effectively.

When everything’s flowing smoothly, you’ll have more time to really focus on your clients and guide them through their transformation. Instead of juggling the basics, you can dig into the deeper stuff that makes lasting change possible. Now, doesn’t that make the idea of systematizing a little more exciting?

2. Stop Over-Teaching, Start Motivating

Okay, here’s a big one: as coaches, we often teach too much. It’s in our nature! We want to help, so we end up giving away loads of information. But guess what? Too much information can actually overwhelm your clients, and they end up not moving forward with you.

If you’ve ever had someone watch your live or read your post and say, “This is great! I got so much out of it,” but then they never sign up to work with you, you may have given away too much. The truth is, when clients get overloaded, they often feel like they’ve already got what they need, even though they haven’t.

Instead, focus on motivating your clients. Show them what’s possible and paint a picture of the future they want. When they’re inspired, they’ll come to you and say, “I’m ready—show me how to make this happen!” That’s a much more powerful place to be.

3. Share Your Opinions, Loud and Proud

You have opinions—don’t be afraid to share them! In a world where so many people offer similar solutions, your unique perspective is what makes you stand out. Your opinions, values, and beliefs are what will draw your ideal clients to you.

Whether it’s about how you approach coaching, life, or business, sharing what you believe in creates a deeper connection with your audience. People want to work with someone who understands them and shares their worldview. So, don’t hold back! Let your personality shine through—it’s how you’ll build trust and connection with your clients.

4. Become Micro-Famous

Here’s a big shift you can make: stop trying to be everywhere. Focus on becoming micro-famous in smaller, targeted spaces where your ideal clients hang out. Instead of spreading yourself thin across all social platforms, concentrate on a few key places, like specific Facebook groups or communities.

Being active and consistent in a smaller space allows you to build real connections. When you show up regularly in these places, people will start to recognize you as the go-to expert. Trust me, this will be way more effective than trying to be everywhere at once!

5. Nurture Your Leads—All the Way to a Sale

Lastly, nurturing your leads doesn’t just mean providing great content and hoping they eventually sign up to work with you. You need to guide them through the process and build a relationship that naturally leads to a sale.

Use what I like to call the permission sandwich method:

  1. Permission: Let your audience know it’s okay to believe in themselves and align with their values.
  2. Clout: Share your expertise and show them that others trust you. Whether it’s testimonials or features, show that people think you’re awesome!
  3. Training: Offer just enough training to get them curious, but not so much that they feel they don’t need you.
  4. Recommendations: Share resources, tools, or books that have helped you, showing that you care about their journey, not just the sale.
  5. Ask: Don’t be afraid to ask them to take the next step—whether that’s booking a call, joining your email list, or buying your program.
  6. Feedback: Always ask for feedback. It keeps the conversation going and helps you connect even more deeply.

By nurturing your audience this way, you’re not just offering value—you’re building a relationship that naturally leads to sales, without feeling pushy.
