Have you ever wondered how to improve brand messaging? We all keep hearing that messaging is important. After all, your message is how you connect with your ideal market and build relationships. So why is no one signing up for your opt-in? Why are your email open rates low? Why are you not attracting more clients? What you may not realize is that your messy messaging is costing you money.
When it comes to growing your business, marketing is 80% of where you need to focus, and messaging is 80% of marketing. But all the old-school tactics don’t give you anything to use to help you dial in your messaging so you are left to fend for yourself.
This leaves you with passive, vague, and diluted messaging that causes you to get lackluster results that keep your business from growing.
Let’s take a closer look at what messy messaging is, what successful brand messaging should be, why it’s important, and how you can improve your messaging to grow your business.

WHAT IS MESSY MESSAGING?

how to improve brand messaging
Messy messaging is when you talk about a bunch of different things and confuse the market. Your messy messaging makes it very difficult to build authority and become known for a set of finite ideas and offers.
The truth is, we all start out with messy messaging because social media tells us to share what we like. So we start sharing, recipes, pictures of our kids, a book we read, and that vacation we took. Unfortunately, none of this helps you build a cohesive brand. So what ends up happening is people may follow and enjoy you, but never buy from you.
The ultimate goal is to have great messaging! Everything you do in your business is affected by what you say and how you say it. Great messaging is when you are consistently saying the right things to the right people, in the right places, and become known for a set of ideas and offers.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BRAND MESSAGING IN YOUR MARKETING

What is Brand Messaging?

Your brand messaging is the voice of your business. It’s how you communicate with your ideal client and build relationships. Traditional brand messaging is all about conveying the problem you solve. The big thing that’s often missing when people talk about how to market is that your brand messaging should give your ideal client permission to be themselves and understand how they are misunderstanding their problem. When done right, good brand messaging can help you attract your ideal clients, increase sales, and build a strong community around your business.

Why Brand Messaging Is Important?

Your brand messaging is important because it’s how you connect with your community on a deeper level, build trust, and ultimately make sales. If your message is unclear, inconsistent, or out-of-line with your goals, you will lose customers and sales.
Think about it this way… when you go on a date with someone for the first time, you don’t just start talking about yourself, right? You engage in conversation, get to know the other person, and build rapport. The same is true when it comes to business.
My dad always said business is people and without people, you don’t have a business. So before you can start selling to someone, you need to establish a relationship and build trust. That’s where brand messaging comes in. With strong brand messaging, you can create an authentic emotional connection with your ideal client that will make them fall in love with you and want to do business with you.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR BRAND MESSAGINGhow to improve brand messaging

How many times have you changed your brand messaging, only to see no increase in sales? If you’re like most mom business owners, the answer is “more times than I’d care to admit.” At this point, you’ve Googled, “How to improve brand messaging” a hundred times. The good news is, there are some simple steps you can take to ensure your brand messaging resonates with your ideal client and gets them to buy from you.
Marketing online has shifted and it isn’t the same as it was twenty years ago. The same worksheets and questions you are asking about your ideal client’s mission, frustrations, and benefits aren’t helpful. Sadly these are the wrong questions and they are keeping you from dialing in your messaging in a way that actually works.
Ask Better Questions
The first step to creating strong brand messaging that resonates with your ideal client is to know your ideal customer inside and out. What motivates them? Do they struggle with anything specific? What do they want to achieve?
One method we teach in our group coaching program is to perform market research in my favorite place online…Facebook! Facebook is not only for posting your meals, your children’s funny moments, or workouts but it’s also a great place to build community and learn more about your clients.
We teach our members to join Facebook groups where their ideal client may hang out and to ask questions that encourage a real response from real people. We teach you how to ask the right questions so you can get the right answers. You can use the responses you get to get clarity on who your ideal client is and their wants.
You can take it a step further and use exactly what they say in their response in your own messaging. This trick will have your ideal client thinking, “wow she really understands how I feel!”. Once you have a clear understanding of who you’re talking to, you can craft a message that speaks directly to their needs.
Understand Your Client’s Behaviors
How many times have you been wooed by a great guy on a first date only to be disappointed later when he shows his true colors? Messy messaging can do the same thing to your audience. Your ad or social media post promised one thing, but your product delivered something else entirely. Or, even worse, your ideal client had no idea what your product was supposed to do. Messy messaging leaves your ideal client confused about exactly what you have to offer.
When trying to figure out how to improve brand messaging you must first start with what your customers want to feel. Your customers don’t care about the specs of your product or service; they want to know how it will make their lives better. But even more than that, they want to feel accepted and they want to know that you understand what their life really looks like. When we understand human behavior and why people don’t take action, we start to understand that our messaging has to acknowledge that life can be hard.

Find Different Ways To Say The Same Thing
Most people believe that good messaging means that you can say what you mean in just a few words, but that makes being on social media all the time really hard. The truth is, great messaging is all about being able to say what you believe and how you can help in a ton of different ways.
A great way to brainstorm this process is with mind mapping. Take an opinion, an offer, or a frustration, write it on a sheet of paper, and then start adding all the different stories and situations surrounding that idea. Now you have 10+ ways to talk about that one idea.
The idea that we can be clear and concise from the beginning of our messaging is an unrealistic expectation. And we never know what our audience is going to resonate with so the more we can test and play with the way we say things, the closer we come to know the phrases and ideas that convert.
If your brand messaging needs improvement, there are some simple things you can do to get started. First, take a close look at your website and social media platforms. Make sure that the language you’re using is clear and concise. Second, make sure that your message is consistent across all of your channels. Finally, take some time to define your ideal client and make sure that your message resonates with them. By following these simple tips, you can start to see improvements in your brand messaging – and in your bottom line!

WHAT IS THE BEST MESSAGING STRATEGY FOR MOM ENTREPRENEURS

The best brand messaging strategy is one that promotes consistency of messaging over more creation of content. Mom entrepreneurs do not lack the drive or motivation to be six-figure, business earners. We struggle with time, setting boundaries, and being clear with our messaging. We don’t have a predictable schedule, long stretches of time to focus on work, and deal with a lot of interruptions. It is impossible to implement the types of content marketing strategies that other marketing experts and Instagram gurus teach us without taking away from more important areas of our lives like our families.
So is there no hope for us? There is hope! We need a system, that’s proven to work but also doesn’t require you to create content or be on social media all day. All the women in our group coaching program, learn how to simplify their messaging, map out their key opinions and beliefs, and use our social media strategy in such a way that attracts more business and sales for them.
