My Natural Hair Growth Remedies (Tried & True!)

When it comes to hair, we all have unique journeys, and if you’re like me, your journey might have started with thin, flat hair that didn’t seem to want to grow once you hit a certain age. So I set out to find the best, and effective natural hair growth remedies I could find. But first, a back story on my hair and how I got here. I’m willing to bet we share some similarities.

Growing up, I’d been taught to keep things simple. My mom, who had beautiful, long hair until an ill-fated bleaching left it permanently damaged, warned me not to dye my hair unless I absolutely had to. After that incident she always had short pixie hair, and while it’s totally her style, I know she was teaching more than just compliance and wanted me to embrace my natural beauty.

I followed her advice, keeping my hair natural until I was 37! But when the grays started to appear and my hair felt dull rather than that stylish “silver fox” look, I knew I wanted to try something new. Plus I just got to a point where I felt like no matter what I couldn’t get it to grow how I wanted to, which was thicker and stronger.

So, I began exploring ways to revive my hair, and I’m excited to share the natural hair growth remedies I’ve learned over the years, from the best products to the little habits that made a big difference. Here’s what I discovered about natural hair growth remedies and how each change helped my hair feel stronger, fuller, and healthier.

1. Gua Sha & Scalp Massage: Drain Away Toxins for Healthy Hair

I’d heard about Gua Sha as a tool for lymphatic drainage in skincare, but it turns out this ancient technique is amazing for hair too! Regular scalp massages can increase blood flow to the hair follicles, bringing in essential nutrients and oxygen. Studies even show that increased circulation can help with hair strength and growth.

Gua Sha has been a mini-spa session for me, adding a touch of luxury to my routine. Here’s what I do: I apply a little oil—usually rosemary, since it also promotes hair growth—and use my Gua Sha tool to massage my scalp in gentle circles. After 5–10 minutes, I can feel the release of tension, and I swear my hair roots are a little more alive and happy afterward!

DIY Tip: If you want to try it yourself, grab a Gua Sha tool and take a few minutes to indulge in this relaxing ritual. It’s like a little gift to yourself!

2. Olaplex for Strength and Thickness

When my hair stylist introduced me to Olaplex, it was a total game-changer. I trust her with these things, and love that I can get it on Amazon. Olaplex uses a patented ingredient to repair broken bonds within each strand, which makes a huge difference for anyone with thinning or damaged hair. For me, the results were immediate: my hair felt fuller, looked shinier, and seemed to hold up against breakage better than ever.

For the first time, I felt like my hair was getting stronger with each wash rather than weaker. It doesn’t create instant growth, but it strengthens what you have so that you lose less hair over time, which means more volume overall.

3. Rosemary Oil & Castor Oil: A Dream Team for Healthy Hair Growth

Rosemary oil is my secret weapon! Did you know it’s as effective as some over-the-counter hair growth products? It stimulates circulation, which gets things moving at the root level. And then there’s castor oil, which is rich in fatty acids to coat each strand, reducing breakage.

I apply this combo about twice a week. I massage the oils into my scalp and leave them in overnight if possible, especially if I’m planning to wash my hair the next morning. Since starting this, I’ve noticed significant growth—like, we’re talking an inch and a half in a month! It’s incredible what a bit of TLC can do.

Curious to try? This hair oil includes rosemary oil and is from a small locally owned creator native to the Philippines and currently making hand batches of hair oil in Ohio. It’s an easy addition to your routine with huge benefits! She is BossMom recommended and has the BEST hand made natural products.

4. Silk Pillowcases: The Game-Changer for Hair Damage Prevention

This one is a small change with a big impact. Switching to silk pillowcases completely transformed my hair’s texture. I don’t really know why, or how but sleeping on a silk pillow case just helps my hair feel cleaner, longer. Maybe it’s because cotton pillowcases create friction, which can lead to breakage and frizz, but silk allows your hair to glide smoothly, so you wake up with fewer tangles and less damage.

Since making the switch, my hair has felt thicker and less prone to breakage. And here’s a bonus—silk is hypoallergenic and great for skin too, so you’re doing double-duty for beauty while you sleep!

Pro Tip: Invest in a high-quality, 100% mulberry silk pillowcase. Your hair and skin will thank you every morning. I know, they sound expensive, but you can find them for about $10! Totally worth it.

5. Community Support & Continuous Learning About Healthy Hair

Hair care is so much easier when you’re not doing it alone. Thanks to social media, I discovered that so many women share the same hair growth challenges. Platforms like BossMom+ have been instrumental in helping me find support, from hair tips to motivation to keep going. Knowing I wasn’t the only one struggling with thinning hair kept me going.

Being part of a community where people are open about their journeys, whether it’s hair, business, or motherhood, is powerful. If you’re on a similar journey, find a supportive group to help keep you motivated. Sharing and learning together can make the whole experience feel more doable.

6. Exploring Supplements for Hair and Skin Health

Finally, I started experimenting with supplements to nourish my hair from the inside out. Collagen peptides were my first addition—they’re amazing for skin and joint health and that’s actually what I started using them for, but they also strengthen hair. Collagen is loaded with amino acids that support hair elasticity and thickness, so adding it to my coffee each morning has been an easy, feel-good addition.

Along with collagen, I’m looking into other supplements like biotin and vitamin D. Biotin is often touted as the “hair growth vitamin,” and it supports overall hair health, especially for people with thinning or fragile hair. Vitamin D is great for follicle health, while zinc helps reduce shedding. I’m still exploring the right combination for my needs, but so far, I’m seeing great progress.

I’ll be making updates to this as I find more and more supplements I can recommend with integrity to you. If you know of any, please reach out!

My Hair Journey is Still Growing (and So Can Yours!)

This journey taught me that hair health isn’t just about what’s on the outside; it’s about consistent care, learning, and growth—literally and figuratively. By nourishing my hair from the scalp to the ends, finding supportive people, and trying new things along the way, I’m building the hair I want. And trust me, if I can see a difference, you can too!

Whether you try Gua Sha, invest in a silk pillowcase, or experiment with new products, your hair journey can be uniquely yours. Remember, change happens one little routine at a time. So keep going, stay curious, and let’s keep growing together!
