I Shut Down My 75k Facebook Group

I’m diving into one of the biggest changes I’ve made in my business journey: shutting down our 75,000-member Facebook group. It’s a huge decision, and if I’m honest, it was a lot scarier than I anticipated. But sometimes, even if something seems good, we have to be willing to make a change for something that could be great. Let’s talk about why I decided to close down this massive Facebook group and what we’re building next with Boss Mom Plus.

Why Shutting Down a Big, Successful Facebook Group Made Sense

I’ve been known for building engaged communities, speaking about it on stages, podcasts, and even the Today Show. The Boss Mom Facebook group has been around since 2015, and over the years, we grew from a few hundred members to tens of thousands. Each milestone brought more success, and our members loved the space we’d created. It was a place for genuine connections, collaborations, and support—unlike anything else on Facebook.

But here’s the reality: when something becomes so big, it can be harder to manage. Even though our group was thriving on the outside, maintaining the quality and community vibe took time, money, and energy. And when you do something so well, people often take it for granted, not realizing the effort that goes into keeping it valuable. If you’ve built something people rely on and love, then you know that’s a fantastic feeling. But sometimes, that doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it the same way.

The turning point for me was when we decided to develop a Boss Mom app, and I was asked if we wanted a community feature in it. My gut reaction? “No.” This response stopped me in my tracks because, for anyone who knows me, community is everything. It’s what I do. That was when I realized it wasn’t community I didn’t want—I just didn’t want it in a Facebook group.

The Problem with Facebook Groups as Community Platforms

Facebook groups have a few downsides, especially for larger communities. For one, the platform often starts recommending your group to people who might not fit your vibe. And as it grows, keeping the culture intact becomes harder. Facebook also limits admin visibility and control, which makes managing the community feel distant and less effective.

For a long time, I found myself putting in more time and effort without the same fulfillment or joy that the group used to bring. It was like being in a one-sided relationship where I was giving everything but wasn’t getting the same energy back. This wasn’t what I wanted for our Boss Mom community.

That’s when I knew it was time for something different. I wanted to create a space where the distractions of social media wouldn’t interfere with our connections and goals. Boss Mom Plus was born.

Boss Mom Plus: Building a Real Village for Women in Business

The decision to close our Facebook group and launch Boss Mom Plus was reaffirmed by a moment of clarity. I saw the movie Dune 2, and there was a pivotal scene where the main character has to go “all in” for his mission to work. For Boss Mom, I realized I had to go all in on creating a space that wasn’t limited by Facebook’s rules or distractions. I had to make Boss Mom Plus our own dedicated community platform.

With Boss Mom Plus, we chose a platform called Circle to host our new space. This decision gives us control and flexibility—features we never had with a Facebook group. Plus, we leveled up by developing our own Boss Mom app! Now, you’ll have easy access to a community that feels supportive, inspiring, and, most importantly, distraction-free.

Why Boss Mom Plus is the Ideal Space for Growth, Networking, and Collaboration

Our vision for Boss Mom Plus goes beyond just networking. We’re creating a true village of like-minded moms who understand the challenges of growing a family and a business simultaneously. Boss Mom Plus is a paid community, so even though the cost is under $100 for an entire year, it attracts committed members who are serious about collaboration and growth.

Here’s what makes Boss Mom Plus special:

  • A Community Free from Social Media Distractions: Unlike a Facebook group, our space is free from ads, algorithms, and unrelated notifications.
  • Real Networking and Collaboration Opportunities: Boss Mom Plus is designed to help you get clients, form partnerships, and make genuine connections.
  • A Space for Six-Figure Growth Potential: Imagine if we all supported each other, hired from within, and shared resources. That’s the power of a close-knit, engaged community.

Creating Space for Your Own Growth and Excitement

Shutting down our Facebook group wasn’t just about simplifying. It was about sparking creativity, excitement, and inspiration. In a space where I control the culture, my imagination has room to run wild, and my passion for building a supportive network for moms has come back stronger than ever. I want that for you too—a business that lifts you up, excites you, and helps you grow.

If something in your life or business isn’t lighting you up anymore, I encourage you to find the courage to make a change. Maybe it’s time to pivot, to say goodbye to something that isn’t serving you, or to step into a new challenge. Remember, growth comes from taking action, even when it’s scary.

Why Boss Mom Plus is Different: A Place for Moms Who Want More

What sets Boss Mom Plus apart from a Facebook group or other social media communities? It’s about quality over quantity. By moving to a dedicated platform, we’re focused on providing a safe, valuable space where you don’t have to be an expert at marketing to see results. It’s for moms who want more than just likes and comments—they want tangible growth, support, and results.

Imagine a space designed for business moms, by business moms, that actually prioritizes your needs and goals. That’s what we’re building, and we want you to be a part of it.

Join the Future of Boss Mom: Building a Community of Real Support and Growth

Boss Mom Plus is more than just a new platform. It’s a vision for the future. In this closed network, we’ll support each other, collaborate, and create real opportunities for growth without the constant noise of social media. This is the village we all need—a place where marketing, networking, and connection happen naturally.

If you’re ready to be part of a community that truly understands you, then join us at Boss Mom Plus. It’s where you’ll find not only business resources but also real friendships, support, and inspiration for the journey ahead.
