Lilah Higgins is a graphic designer based in Cody, Wyoming (right outside Yellowstone).  When she’s not chasing around her toddlers like a crazy woman or spending time with her husband, she is working alongside amazing Makers by providing them with logos, branding, and design consultation. She creates at The Higgins Creative and loves coffee, filling her home with beautiful people and sharing the stories of Makers with them through handmade and fairly traded goods. She’s also the founder of the #waketomake hashtag on Instagram. You can catch her there or writing on her blog.

Tell us a little bit about your family and your Boss Mom journey.

I am an artist and graphic designer by trade. My hubby (& youth group sweetheart!) and I got married as soon as it was legal and have been side-by-side for over 7 years. We have two toddlers, Elladee is almost 2 and Fletcher is 3. When I was a teen I swore I’d never have my own business. I also swore I’d never move to Wyoming or have kids right away. God has a sense of humor because here I am with exactly what I never thought I wanted, and I just adore it most days. I started The Higgins Creative before we had kids and it became my lifeline for those lonely early days of being their mom. Motherhood is a rough journey and not for the faint of heart and if it wasn’t for my biz, as fledging as it was somedays, I think I would have lost my mind by now.Lilah Higgins HeadshotWhat are some of your favorite go to meals when time is tight and dinner MUST get on the table?

We’re loving Edamame Noodles right now! I just make a quick sauce from peanut butter and soy sauce and boil them for 5-8 minutes and I can binge eat them without feeling guilty (and fat after!) We also love breakfast any time of the day, because who doesn’t like breakfast food?!

Where do you go for inspiration?

Instagram. HA! But honestly, all I have to do is look out my living room window and I see the East gate of Yellowstone National Park, which we will be exploring a whole lot this summer. The mountains are like a breath of fresh air for our whole family.

What are you currently reading or listening to (podcasts, books, blogs etc)?

I just finished Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and I LOVED it! I’m about to dig into #girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, so ask me in a few weeks.

What is one piece of business advice that you’d give to a mom just starting out?

NO GUILT. Do what you can do and let that be enough. If you want to do more, don’t do it out of guilt and ASK FOR HELP. Set reasonable expectation for what you want to accomplish and give yourself a lot of grace as your find your way. There’s a lot of keep track of and manage and it’s okay to start small if you need to. Let the process become you.

What are some of your favorite quotes or words to live by?

“Her success is not your failure” -unknown & and on repeat: “By the Grace of God we all go” -my mom

In one word, sum up your life as a Boss Mom.

Variated.

What are three core values of your business and how do those values relate to your motherhood?

Our business is built on the idea that everyone is called to make, that we are all have the responsibility to make good things, and that those good things should help others and build up community among clients, mentors, and peers. As a mom, I make good in my mothering and homemaking everyday, even if it feels mundane or ineffective (due toddler who doesn’t listen!) Thinking this way evens the playing field for me by understanding that everything I do is important and worthwhile–whether it’s changing a diaper or branding a small biz.

Do you have something we can help promote?

I recently launched our Maker Packages for small business owners. Each package is designed for Makers in different stages and include elements of design, marketing boosts, and tools & resources to help makers succeed and flourish in their small business. Head here for more information on that!

Also, I’ve created this new print that I’d love to share with you. To download it, head here!
