Katie Evans, founder of Horray MailKatie Evans wears a lot of hats in her life. She’s this week’s Boss Mom of the Week and also the very first sponsor of the Boss Mom podcast! Her product, Hooray Mail is just adorable and we’re over the moon to have a new clever way to connect with our kids off life!

Here she is in her own words
: I’m Katie – proud wife of Mark and mama to Nina Lorraine (age 4) and Mae Frances (age 2). I’m a believer in living – and parenting – with intention and always eating something sweet after dinner. I love all things personal development, Wisconsin cheese, a cold glass of rose and fresh flowers. I work a normal day job where I’m the VP-Operations at a medical software company and am the President of the Board of Directors of a local non-profit. I’m also the founder of Hooray Mail – on top of having a full-time job! Learn more about me over on the blog (I post twice a week!), Instagram or by listening to my podcast episodes on The Lively Show and All Up In Your Lady Business.

Tell us a little bit about your family and your Boss Mom journey.

As a child, I LOVED getting snail mail – the joy, the fun… the hooray moment! I wanted to provide my two little girls the same fun experience in our digital world so I looked to see if there was a subscription based service that would automatically send them fun mail. I couldn’t find what I was looking for so I decided to do something about it! slightsmile emoticon

Hooray Mail is personalized subscription snail mail for kids. So basically, we send a personalized card twice per month to kiddos. It includes a colorful envelope, a sweet message and a simple little activity that requires crayons or basic supplies laying around your house. We help moms (and aunts! grandmas! and more!) and kiddos connect on purpose instead of by accident. We’re all busy with mile long to-do lists and dreams and ambitions for ourselves AND our family, so sometimes we need a reminder to sloooow down and connect with our kiddos.

What are some of your favorite go to meals when time is tight and dinner MUST get on the table?

A few easy staples we always have on hand are… steaks in our freezer to pull out and grill, green smoothie makings, quesadilla makings (salsa, black beans, cheese, tortillas, etc), stuff to make a big salad, and a frozen pizza for when things get really tight! I love to cook and entertain so I could write on this question forever. A few additional resources I’d highly recommend are:

  • Prep Dish – for when you want to prep ahead of time for the entire week – breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. See my review here!
  • Great Food Fast – I’m usually an Ina Garten devotee, but on weeknights when things need to be made fast I LOVE this cookbook.

Where do you go for inspiration?

Sounds cliché, but my two girls are my inspiration. Their sweet giggles and smiles give me energy. I also get lots of personal inspiration from my family, husband and time at the lake! Business inspiration… see next question.

What are you currently reading or listening to (podcasts, books, blogs etc)?

My favorite podcasts are The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey, Boss Mom, Smart Passive Income, Creative Empire, All Up in your Lady Business, The Lively Show and The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes. Check out 7 of my favorite books lately here. I also love watching DailyVee from Gary Vaynerchuck. All of his content is fantastic!

What is one piece of business advice that you’d give to a mom just starting out?

Be clear about your WHY so you’re intentional about investing time and money into your business in the first place. Going into business as a mama means you’ll have to say “no” to plenty of things so you can say “yes” to your business (and what really matters!), but if you’re clear as to WHY you’re in it and WHO you are serving, it makes it WAY easier to say “no” when need be.

What are some of your favorite quotes or words to live by?

  1. What you allow is what will continue. –Unknown
  2. The only thing from keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself about why you can’t have it. – Tony Robbins
  3. Purpose is greater than perfect. -Lara Casey
  4. Don’t let people pull you into their storms. Pull them into your peace.  – K. Jones

I also say this ALL the time!!

In one word, sum up your life as a Boss Mom.

Gratitude

What are three core values of your business and how do those values relate to your motherhood?

HOORAY – My goal is to create “hooray worthy” moments via snail mail!

INTENTION – I believe in intentional, not accidental, parenting so connecting with your kiddos on purpose rather than by accident.

LOVE – More mail = more love = more joy, delivered one mailbox at a time!
