Tell us a little bit about your family and your Boss Mom journey.
I am the mother of 3 incredibly smart, funny and ambitious kids…11, 13 and 21. The oldest is off to college and living his dream of playing college Lacrosse. The youngest 2 are active in lacrosse, dance, piano and youth groups. My husband and I have been married for 15 years and he is incredibly supportive of any and all endeavors I chose to dive into! I began my career as a person trainer over 23 years ago. After working in large gyms for over 18 of those years I had a desire to help people in a smaller less intimidating setting. About 3 years ago my husband actually built me a personal training studio on our home property…I mentioned he is supportive ;). I have been loving training my clients in the small setting in literally our “own private Idaho”….Did I mention that I live in the beautiful resort town of Sandpoint, Idaho ? In the past 2 years I have begun to create online fitness and nutrition programs to reach even more people and am working on building a fitness/wellness academy course and a membership site to further motivate women to get strong, healthy, productive and fit!
What are some of your favorite go to meals when time is tight and dinner MUST get on the table?
I am a HUGE fan of meal prep on Sunday evenings before a crazy week begins (even wrote a book on it!) so that definitely helps with quick go to meals. I would have to say chilis are my favorite healthy go to for busy nights. I love them because you can throw in tons of grated veggies (carrots, zucchini and even kale has gone unnoticed) and really ramp up the nutrient content and the nerd in me loves that! The kids also take leftovers for lunch so it kills two birds with one stone. I never make a small batch of chili so I have plenty to freeze for another busy night down the road
Where do you go for inspiration?
For my business and fitness inspiration I am a big fan of podcasts as I can listen, learn and get stuff done all at the same time! The Bible is my go to when I am needing inspiration for life and decision making in general
What are you currently reading or listening to (podcasts, books, blogs etc)?
I love the Boss Mom podcast as well as Amy Porterfield (both of these women are so clear and concise) For wellness info I listen to a lot of alternative health shows such as Chris Kesser, Sean Croxton and The Wellness Mama.
What is one piece of business advice that you’d give to a mom just starting out?
My tip for moms just beginning in business is to make a clear “to do” list every night to guide you thru the next day. It is so easy to get off track with little people around that a to do list never fails me when a “squirrel” comes running in!
What are some of your favorite quotes or words to live by?
My favorite words to live by are “Fail to plan, Plan to fail” A plan always keeps me on target and picks me up when motivation might be low. This rule applies in every area of life…I love it so!
In one word, sum up your life as a Boss Mom.
Inspiring – Hoping to inspire my children
What are three core values of your business and how do those values relate to your motherhood?
3 core values: Integrity, perseverance, FOCUS (Follow One Course Until Success) These are things that have helped me to be productive and successful. They are tried and true and you can always fall back on them when you find yourself struggling. These are three words have worked for me in the hard times and I hope that they will be an example to my children when they struggle. When my first child was 1 ½ I became a single mother and these three words helped me get through some very difficult and confusing times
