Share a bit about your Boss Mom journey:

As the wife of a pastor we were getting used to doing without. Before our oldest son was born my husband was working 60+ hours every week. When Noah was born we decided I would stay home from my job. It would be a sacrifice, but we felt like it would be worth it. That is when Jim got laid off. We went from Dual Income, No Kids (DINKs) to No Income, with One Kid.

It was a dark time.

Fast forward a few years and we now had an active 3-year-old and newborn twins and my husband was working hard at another church. We were exhausted, and the potential earnings of ministry work were limited, to say the least.

It wasn’t long after when a friend introduced us to essential oils that actually worked, and I decided it was time to try something different. We didn’t realize there was a business opportunity at the time. About a month later of successes with everything from sleep to diaper rashes, teething, and more… I started to launch building our business between breastfeeding sessions and diaper changes. It was far from ideal, but we were seeing change and helping other families around us. We were seeing growth. It gave us hope.

As our team grew I saw the potential that this could be a difference maker for our family, but also for hundreds of other people we knew around the country. I found the significant value of a residual income when last year, my mom passed away suddenly. Our whole family was able to drive across the country to stay with my dad in a remote area for almost three months, while still bringing in income. We never would have been able to do that in any of our other work situations and for that, I’m so grateful!

What makes you excited about becoming a Boss Mom of the Week?

One of the things I’ve learned from traveling full-time with my family of five over the last 3 years is that creating community can be found anywhere! I have been in the BossMoms group for a relatively short amount of time, but I’ve been impressed with the caliber of women I’ve met here and the relationships I’ve been able to develop during that time. Being recognized as Boss Mom of the week is a nice honor, but I’m more excited about the people it will help me meet. In a group of this size it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle, having certain people recognized helps us to learn about that one person, and gives us the chance to reach out to people that are in our “tribe.” So really, I’m excited for the chance to meet some new friends, building on that community!

One piece of advice for moms who are starting a business

When I was in the launching part of my first business, my babies were 3 and twins were infants with hubby working lots of hours and weekends. Nobody in their right mind would have also been launching a business, but it CAN be done.

First, if it’s not  on the calendar it won’t get done. You’ve got to schedule your business the same way you schedule meals, or family time, or going to church. Grab yourself a planner and set a time each week to jot everything down. Everything. My personal favorite is the Passion Planner with Frixion pens so I can geek out on color coding and erase when I need to.

Also, I’d put together an online “folder” of inspiration. Something you can go back to when you’re overwhelmed or frustrated. We only allow people on our team to quit on a good day, so when you’re having a bad day it’s helpful to have a few emails and texts to life you up and help you cope.

Where do you go for inspiration?

In the mornings,  I get my inspiration through reading the Bible, spending time in prayer, and using apps like Soul Space to help me to anchor my thoughts to the love of God. It helps me establish the day on solid ground and I can be more creative when my head space is on track.

What are you currently reading or listening to (podcasts, books, blogs etc)?

I’m currently listening to Shawn Stevenson’s podcast , The Model Health Show – love it! I’m also reading the book, Brazen by Sean Feucht.

I want to live in a world where…

sunshine and cool breezes are a daily occurrence.

This is what I know to be true…

Jesus loves fallible me.

One thing you can’t live without…

Warm fuzzy socks on my feet when it’s cold outside. I can’t go to sleep without them!

What is the big milestone that you are hitting that you are celebrating?

We just celebrated 3 years traveling full-time across the country with our three boys. What an adventure it’s been!
