Susie Parker is our Boss Mom of the WeekTell us a little bit about your family and your Boss Mom journey.

I’m Susie Parker, Certified Sleep Consultant and founder of Sleep Baby Love, child sleep consulting.  I help babies, toddlers and preschoolers learn to love sleep.  I’m a mom of two girls 3 & 5 and live in Chicago.

I always wanted to start my own business but unfortunately, it was my horrible sleeping second child that was the reason I took the leap.  I went through a pretty tough few months holding my baby trying to get her to sleep while googling everything I could to get her to sleep with the other hand.  Thankfully my sleep obsession was born and I realized how important it was to support parents going through a tough time.

What are some of your favorite go to meals when time is tight and dinner MUST get on the table?

I sometimes get so involved with work that I often think at 5:15 what to make for 5:30 pm.  The staples of the summer have been a quick salad (thanks to my summer subscription to our local CSA) and quesadillas.

Where do you go for inspiration?

I love Facebook and all of the business groups (Boss-Moms, of course!).  I love to hear the motivational stories of others and love having an easy place to ask my business related questions.

What are you currently reading or listening to (podcasts, books, blogs etc)?

I love SPI (where I found Dana) and Amy Porterfield’s podcast gives a ton of value.  I just found out that my favorite non-business related bloggers (Young House Love) just started a podcast and I expect that many hours will be spent listening to them too.  So many podcasts, so little time!

What is one piece of business advice that you’d give to a mom just starting out?
Just do you.  You’ll see a ton of shiny objects out there.  Just put on blinders and do what’s best for your family and your business.  Don’t compare yourself to the success of others.  Focus on your own success whatever that may look like to you.
What are some of your favorite quotes or words to live by?
Seeing both sides doesn’t make you less passionate, it makes you compassionate.
In one word, sum up your life as a Boss Mom.
Chaotic
What are three core values of your business and how do those values relate to your motherhood?
Realness, honesty, integrity.  I really want to be someone that people can trust in business (even if it means that I get fewer sales).  I don’t want to overpromise and underdeliver.  I try and set expectations with my kids as well.
