I’m April. And I’m known for a couple of amazing skills. They both have one thing in common… I make it rain.

Seriously. Ask around. It won’t take you long to find out that I kick bootie with sales and affiliate marketing. And I LOVE to help people smash their income goals.

How do I do that?

I listen to people. I understand how their business works. I connect the dots of what you need and what you want with the resources you’re lacking. Then I fit the pieces together like the best income igniting business pivot you’ve ever seen. Connect with me at April D. Lewis.
Tell us a little bit about your family and your Boss Mom journey.

I’m a single mom of an amazing 20 year old son. I’ve homeschooled him since 5th grade. He’s now living on his own and in college, working as he goes. It’s been me and him since he was 2.

I started off as a single mom blogger about 7 years ago. But two years ago I had a personal trauma and became suicidally depressed. Becoming a freelancer was part of the recovery. I flipped my whole world upside down and climbed my way back out.

Today I run a successful business with a small team of subcontractors. I am consistently starting to have $8000 months and hopefully soon will go over that, like, this month I hope! LOL

The next leg of my journey will be adding travel to all the craziness. My plan is to travel the US while I work, starting in June. My son is super supportive and even pushing me to accomplish this goal of mine.
What are some of your favorite go to meals when time is tight and dinner MUST get on the table?

I just found out I have Hashimoto’s last fall. I’m on a super restrictive diet. I do cheat. I won’t even pretend to lie. But my cheats are things like, eating a tomato or bell pepper, eating beans… not link binging on Doritos or something.

I have to eat an autoimmune paleo, anti inflammatory, blood sugar regulation, dairy free, gluten free, soy free, corn free, and grain free diet.

My go to is nitrate free, all natural lunch meat, with raw veggies… or homemade bone broth with veggies as a soup. It’s just easy and I don’t have to think about anything. I’ve recently subscribed to Sun Basket for meals and it’s working out really well for me.

What are you currently reading or listening to (podcasts, books, blogs etc)?

I’m reading Dotcom Secrets. Next up will be Profit First.

What is one piece of business advice that you’d give to a mom just starting out?

Don’t give up. It’s the easiest answer when it gets tough. And it will get tough. But if you want it, stick with it. It’s so worth it. You can accomplish amazing things. You won’t even know what all’s inside you unless you give it a chance to come out… that takes overcoming adversity and meeting challenges head on.

In one word, sum up your life as a Boss Mom.

Empowering

What are three core values of your business and how do those values relate to your motherhood?

1. Under promise and over deliver.
2. Treat others as you’d want to be treated.
3. Give advice to clients that you’d use in your own business.

I always tell my son that life is what you make it. I have drilled into him that he has the right to not like anything he wants. But if he chooses to be angry, unhappy, pissed, whatever… that’s on him. Not anyone else. He has the power to make it a force of good or evil in him.

And that you have to be able to sleep at night. So it doesn’t matter what someone else does, if you do your best, and you know you gave all you could in the right way, and you can sleep at night without a guilty conscious, then you’ve done the right thing.

Most importantly I’ve always taught him to be generous. No matter how bad life might have seemed being a broke single mom and him doing without all the time, I’d always remind him that so many people have it so much worse than we do and to be grateful for what we have. And sometimes you have to give even when you don’t know where it’s going to come from and you need stuff yourself.
